ACCORD an UNFPA Project

three case workers implemented several community interventions aimed at  Siblings supporting adolescent girls in emergencies.

One of the key interventions was supporting adolescent girls through group sessions under the Tumaini initiative. The program organized different learning groups within the same community and families, including:

  • Adolescent girls groups

  • Siblings  groups

  • Female caregivers groups

  • Male caregivers groups

Each group included 12 participants, allowing families from the same households to learn together how they can better protect and support adolescent girls within their homes and communities.

The sessions focused on important topics such as:

  • Menstrual hygiene management

  • Gender equality within the household

  • Promoting the idea that both boys and girls can share household responsibilities, and that there is no work that belongs only to girls or only to boys.

The project also conducted community awareness activities on Gender-Based Violence (GBV), reaching approximately 3,000 people in the community.

In addition, the program facilitated Women and Girls Safe Spaces, where women and girls could meet and learn about:

  • Family planning

  • Parenting skills

  • Menstrual hygiene and personal hygiene

  • Self-confidence and self-reliance

  • Emotional and psychological violence

  • How mothers can communicate better with their daughters

Through the Women and Girls Safe Spaces, the project reached approximately 500 women and girls.

These activities helped strengthen families, promote gender equality, and create safer environments for adolescent girls in the community.
